Disthene | Kyanite - International Crystals Encyclopedia https://www.atlantisinstitute.org/
Referred to as Kyanite for this report

Origin - the place or situation from which something comes, the beginning of something’s existence, the point from which it starts out, the thing from which it is ultimately derived.
Kyanite is a blue mineral of the silicate variety that is mainly sourced from aluminium rich metamorphic pegamites and also in sedimentary rock.

It occurs in schist, quartz, pegmatite and gneiss veins as the result of high pressure metamorphism of pelitic rock. In the sedimentary rocks it occurs in the form of detrital grains.

All crystals belong to a different group according to the basis of the relationships of their axes. There are 7 systems and 32 classes of symmetry. Kyanite crystals belong to the Triclinic system.

History - the past considered as a whole, the whole series of past events connected with someone or sometihing, a continuous typically chronological record of importance.
The name Kyanite is taken from the Greek word Kuanos which means deep blue.

Ancient myth tells that when Kyanite was suspended from human hair it could trace the magnetic force of the earth in a similar way to the needle of a compass. This belief  caused many travellers to carry Kyanite on long journeys or when exploring new territories.

Kyanite deposits can be found in Canada, Brazil, Austria, Zimbabwe, Switzerland and the US among others and is mined largely for industrial purposes.

The stone is used extensively in ceramic and refractory products which includes dishware and porcelain plumbing fixtures . It is also used in abrasives, electrical insulators and electronics.

Specification - the act of describing or identifying something precisely, a detailed description of the design and materials used to make something.
Kyanite is formed in long flat prisms and has a fibrous, brittle fracture with a weak, red fluorescence. It is opaque with a vitreous to pearly luster and is distinctive in that one crystal can encompass a duo level of hardness. On the Mohs scale it is described as a scale of 4.5 -5 parallel to one axis with a hardness scale of 6.5-7 perpendicular to that axis.

Kyanite is enhanced through cutting, tumbling and polishing and is mainly used for industrial purposes due to its refraction qualities.

Varieties - a number or range of things of the same general class that are different or distinct in character or quality.
Kyanite is referred to in a variety of ways, including but not limited to;

  • Disthene
  • Cyanite
  • Rhaeticite

The stone is also associated with

  • Andalucite
  • Talc
  • Silimanite
  • Gedrite
  • Corundum
  • Mullite
  • Staurolite
  • Hornblende

Esoteric Attributes - a quality or feature as characteristic of or possed by something.
Crystals by their very nature are able to receive and focus energy in different ways. Their molecular structure enables them to be used to amplify and convert energy and hence crystals have been used for centuries to aid healing and transmute energy both in the metaphysical and physical world.

Because each crystal family has different formational backgrounds, each also has different vibrtional frequencies that can be harnesed and used for specific purposes. Each therefore have specific qualities that can be used to help a person heal on the many different levels of their being.

The following is a list of healing attributes associated with Kyanite crystals.

Mental: Kyanite helps you to take resolution in action and gives rise to a logical system of thinking.

Emotional: Kyanite is an aid to help you to remain functional in extreme or dramatic situations and also helps in the identification of life-fulfilling vocations.

Physical: Kyanite is great for dexterity and alos the motor nerves. It is an aid to the alleviation of problems caused by the larnyx and also relieves hoarseness.
